Riverside Ex Parte Deadlines: 11:00 a.m. to File, and No Dedicated Civil Rule
Not legal advice. Rules checked against the code on August 20, 2026. Verify every date yourself. Read the full disclaimer
Core CCP rules were checked against Westlaw (via CoCounsel legal research) on August 20, 2026. County local rules are paraphrased summaries; individual department standing orders are NOT included. Verify every date against the operative code sections and your court’s rules before relying on it. Using this site creates no attorney-client relationship.
Riverside publishes both halves of the ex parte clock. E-file the application and all supporting documents by 11:00 a.m. the court day before the hearing, and file any opposition by 8:00 a.m. the morning of the hearing, with a courtesy copy to the departmental email. Both sit in General Order 2022-1, section 9. One caveat on that hour: General Order 2022-1 is a scanned image PDF and the 11:00 a.m. was read by OCR, so confirm it against the document before you rely on it.
The harder problem is that there is no dedicated civil ex parte local rule in Riverside to read. Watch for Rule 5240, which is titled Ex Parte Orders. It is a juvenile rule and does not govern a civil application. Then the reservation. The court’s civil division page says the hearing is set the day following the filing of the ex parte paperwork, which reads as no reservation at all, while Local Rule 3310 requires represented parties to use the Court Reservation System for “all law and motion matters“ and does not carve out ex parte. That conflict is unresolved. Call the department before you plan around either answer.
Your dates
The rule, before you enter anything
Notify all parties no later than 10:00 a.m. on the court day before the ex parte appearance. CRC 3.1203(a). That is a clock deadline, not a date deadline. It is not extended by mail or electronic service, and if the day before the hearing is not a court day the deadline moves to the preceding court day, never the following one.
Then there is the county filing deadline, which is usually the one that bites. Enter a date and pick your county.

FAQ
What is the Riverside ex parte filing deadline?
11:00 a.m. on the court day before the hearing. General Order 2022-1, section 9(a), states that if the application is filed electronically, it and all supporting documents must be filed no later than that hour. E-filing is mandatory for represented parties in unlimited civil, limited civil and unlawful detainer. One caution on the source: General Order 2022-1 is a scanned image PDF and the 11:00 a.m. figure was read by OCR, so confirm it visually before relying on it.
What is the Riverside ex parte opposition deadline?
8:00 a.m. the morning of the hearing, under section 9(b) of General Order 2022-1. The rule pairs that filing with a courtesy copy to the departmental email. It is a second deadline, separate from the 11:00 a.m. filing hour the day before, and Riverside publishes both.
Do you have to reserve a Riverside ex parte hearing?
Unresolved on the court's own published materials, and this is the one to call about. The civil division page says the hearing is set the day following the filing of the ex parte paperwork, which implies no reservation is needed. Local Rule 3310 requires represented parties to use the Court Reservation System for all law and motion matters and does not carve out ex parte. Call the department rather than picking the answer you prefer.
When are Riverside ex parte applications heard?
Not published county-wide. Individual departments set their own ex parte hearing days and times in their department trial rules. The civil division page does say the hearing is set the day following the filing of the ex parte paperwork.
Which Riverside local rule governs a civil ex parte?
No dedicated one. The operative text is General Order 2022-1, section 9, and the local rules recorded as bearing on an ex parte are Rule 3118 on e-filing and Rule 3310 on reservations. Watch for Rule 5240, which is titled Ex Parte Orders and looks like the answer when you search the local rules. It is a juvenile rule. Do not apply it to a civil application.
Is e-filing mandatory for a Riverside ex parte, and is there an exception?
Mandatory for represented parties in unlimited civil, limited civil and unlawful detainer. General Order 2022-1, section 4(a)(i), exempts an ex parte filed concurrently with a new complaint, which may be filed at the counter. Note what that leaves open. The 11:00 a.m. hour in section 9(a) is written for electronic filing, and this site records nothing about the hour for a counter filing. Ask the department before assuming 11:00 a.m. carries over.
What ex parte notice does Riverside require?
The statewide rule, with no local variation recorded. The civil division page directs compliance with California Rules of Court 3.1200 et seq., in particular rules 3.1203 and 3.1204.
